Upon graduation from college, Daniel continued to work full-time at Chick-fil-A under Shane Todd, his store operator, as a part-time team member with a full-time schedule. Additionally, he worked independently as a freelance web designer, taking on several projects for various friends and clients. Some projects earned Daniel a small amount of extra income, while others were completed out of goodwill and as portfolio pieces. As his financial situation declined, Daniel took his first steps away from Chick-fil-A, cutting back his hours drastically and shifting his focus on finding a full-time position where his expertise in media technology and web design could flourish.

Meanwhile, Daniel continued to entertain audiences from the stage. He appeared in February 2008 as the title character of Bye Bye Birdie, "Conrad Birdie", through the Baptist Collegiate Ministries at UGA, and then again as "Chad" in High School Musical in April of the same year, as produced by the Oconee Youth Playhouse (OYP) in Watkinsville, Georgia. It was through his affiliation with OYP that Daniel finally caught a break.

The director of OYP is Shane Hannon. His father Kent Hannon is the editor of Terry Magazine and upon hearing about Daniel's recent Terry College graduation, encouraged him to speak with some colleagues about some possible opportunities at UGA. It wasn't long before Jinny Potter met Daniel and, impressed by his enthusiastic spirit and interpersonal prowess, offered Daniel a web developer position within the Terry College's Office of Marketing and Communications. And so it was that Daniel returned to his academic roots, accepting a six-month contract with UGA that will keep him there until January 2009.
